Do you think aluminum bats should be banned in youth baseball leagues?

There are grass root movements sprouting up throughout then nation to ban the use of aluminum bats in Little League and other youth baseball leagues

Why are they trying to ban aluminum bats?

They say aluminum bats can be dangerous. It is true there have been instances where Little Leaguers have been incapacitated or killed by line drive hit off of aluminum bats. The injuries and death occurred from cardiac arrest caused by a child being hit in the chest with the ball

I am a youth baseball coach and understand why people want to ban aluminum bats in youth baseball competition.

But is really the only solution?

I think the better option is to approach Little League officials toput pressure on the aluminum bat companies. Insist them to redesign the aluminum bat in such as a way that it reacts like a wood bat.

The problem with the aluminum bats today is that the entire bat is a sweet spot, unlike wooden bats where you have to hit in exactly in the right spot to get the best hit. Believe it or not the aluminum bats companies highlight the fact that their bats are superior because of this large "sweet spot".

Banning aluminum bats is not the answer; redesigning them is!

Even if aluminum bats were outlawed in youth baseball leagues tragic accidents unfortunately would still happen. And then what? Outlaw wood bats too?

I can see it now, the Cal Ripken Wiffeball League.
